Fans Call for Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, earning two for best costume and production design.
