Federal Law Enforcement Report Arrests in Thwarted New Year's Eve Terror Scheme Near Los Angeles

Law enforcement officials stated on Monday that they had managed to foil a comprehensive plan to detonate explosive devices at numerous facilities operated by two American firms on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The move came after the arrest of people linked to an militant faction espousing anti-corporate and anti-authority beliefs.

Suspects Taken Into Custody During Isolated Rehearsal

A quartet of people were detained last Friday in the desert region situated east of Los Angeles at the time they were according to officials practicing their intended operation. Federal attorneys displayed from above reconnaissance video to journalists, that captured the suspects carrying a large black device to a workspace. Officials noted that the apprehensions occurred ahead of the suspects could assemble a working explosive device.

Identities of the Accused Disclosed

As per the submitted legal filing, the four suspects named are Carroll, aged 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; 24-year-old Dante Gaffield; and Lai, 41. All four are understood to be from the LA area.

Alleged Motive and Connections

Although authorities did not explicitly detail a motive, they stated the suspects are members of a faction dubbed the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This organization according to documents advocates for "workers to rise up and fight back against the capitalist system," as per the court papers.

The charges comprise plotting and owning a explosive. The government indicated that further charges are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Particulars of the Supposed "The Midnight Sun Plan"

Authorities said that one of the suspects had devised a meticulous scheme last month to attack five or more corporate facilities across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The targets were characterized as "similar to Amazon" distribution hubs.

"The plan was detailed," a prosecutor stated. "It laid out detailed directions to build IEDs … and named numerous objectives across Orange county and Los Angeles."

As per the investigation and court documents, the scheme called for positioning bags filled with intricate explosive devices that were planned to be set off all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five locations. New Year's Eve was chosen as an perfect time as the scheme indicated "fireworks will be going off at this time so explosions will be harder to be noticed."

An eight-page longhand plan, titled "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," stated that further locations could be included. The facilities were categorized as property and facilities operated by two separate corporations connected with business involving commerce.

Future Schemes and Materials Seized

The investigation also stated that two members in the group had talked about future strikes focusing on ICE agents personnel and vehicles with IEDs in 2026. One individual allegedly noted that such actions "would take some of them out and intimidate the rest of them."

The plotting were reportedly discussed both at an face-to-face gathering in Los Angeles and through an private communication application.

Images contained in the court documents reveal a desert campsite with what investigators said were bomb-making materials laid out on makeshift work surfaces.

Official documents details that the individuals "each brought IED parts to the site, among them various sizes of tubes, believed to be potassium nitrate, charcoal, powdered charcoal, another chemical, and material to be used as detonators, and more."

Instructions also included steps on how to build the devices and how to not leave behind evidence that could be linked back to the group. The accused had in the recent past acquired components and other goods, including acquisitions from major websites.

Operation and Follow-up

The FBI took action last week as the individuals were practicing the operation in the remote area near Twentynine Palms. "They had all the components they required to build an operational bomb at that site," the attorney stated.

In the course of carried out raids, investigators reportedly found signs for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one accused's home that called for "America Must Fall", and "Eliminate ICE". At another suspect's residence, police located a copy of the detailed attack blueprint.

Those arrested were taken into custody peacefully. They were due to face a judge in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
