The Miami Heat recorded 86 first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a overwhelming 146 to 114 victory over the Grizzlies in their initial NBA game since guard Terry Rozier was detained for alleged illegal gambling.

Trail Blazers head coach Billups was additionally arrested in connection with a sweeping FBI investigation into illegal gambling. Both men deny the allegations.

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

Silver also mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he participated for the Charlotte Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent regarding it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they announced recently was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in fairness to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
