Sandwich hurled by protester supposedly shattered and left mustard stain on immigration officer, legal proceedings reveal

A man, eventually detained for supposedly striking law enforcement with a food item, interacts with immigration and federal officers.

A US immigration agent has testified he could detect through his ballistic vest the force of a deli item launched at him by a capital city activist, who has stood before a judge for physical attack.

Immigration and customs agent the officer told the court panel the snack "shattered all over him" and he "detected the onions and condiment" on his official attire.

Both legal teams disputes that the defendant, 37, did in fact lob vulgar language and a made-to-order snack at officers sent by President Donald Trump to patrol the nation's capital in the summer month.

The incident was filmed on camera and became popular online, making Mr Dunn a symbol of opposition in Washington DC to the administration.

State lawyers at first tried to secure felony charges against Mr Dunn, but a legal panel chose not to indict him.

The administration's assignment of military personnel to the federal district this season generated anger from some of the city's residents, who saw it as a political use of the military.

Based on legal filings, the accused walked up to a law enforcement team at about 11 PM on August 10, calling them "authoritarians" and shouting: "Why are you present? I don't want you in my city!"

The trial saw a demonstration from Mr Lairmore on the court date as he testified against the defendant.

"I detected it through my protective gear," he testified of the sandwich's impact, noting that an aromatic fragment dangled from his official equipment and condiment discolored his clothing.

The accused's lawyer, his legal representative, said in her opening statement that throwing the sandwich was a "non-threatening act that did not, could not, result in harm".

But state lawyer the state's representative argued the accused must be facing consequences.

"Regardless of identity, you can't just go around throwing stuff at people because you're mad," the prosecutor stated.

Subsequent to the reported incident was revealed, Mr Dunn was fired from his position as a law firm employee in the government law department.
