The Prince of William Will Participate in Cop30 in South America
The Prince of Wales plans to attend the important UN climate summit in the South American nation in the coming weeks, but the prime minister's attendance is still to be determined.
The Prince is set to award the Earthshot prize and attend the meeting of officials from in excess of 190 governments in the Brazilian city.
Climate Experts Applaud Prince William's Participation
Climate specialists applauded the prince's participation. One consultant noted that it would enhance what is anticipated to be a complex summit, where international agreement on updated targets for reducing carbon emissions is required.
"Is Prince William presence at the summit a stunt? Certainly. But it doesn't imply it's a bad idea," she said. "The summit has historically been as much about what's termed 'optics' as it is about discussions. Prince William's decision will probably encourage other leaders to engage, and will capture global media."
"I believe HRH knows very well that by attending, he'll attract numerous of attention to the event. In an era when climate impacts are increasing, but news reporting is declining, any effort that raises awareness should be applauded."
Royal Attendance at Previous Cops
The monarch has been present at previous climate conferences, but is not be going in this one.

A leader from an environmental thinktank commented: "All hands on deck – and every high-profile figure like the Prince of Wales, in attendance assisting advocate for the complex job that is required, is likely a positive development."
"The monarch] was in his previous role when he participated in Cop26 and pitched in to energize discussions. I don't think it always needs both of them to attend."
PM's Attendance Remains Uncertain
The British prime minister has not confirmed whether he will attend the summit, to which every world leaders are asked, with numerous set to attend. The leader was strongly criticized by leading sustainability leaders for showing indecision on the commitment in recent weeks.
"Global officials must be in Belém for the climate conference. Participation is not optional, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the opportunity to lock in stronger national commitments and the finance to deliver them, especially for resilience" to the impacts of the global warming.
"Global citizens is watching, and the future will remember who participated."
